This government organisation enforces the the technical side of building by LAW.
Consumer Affairs Victoria
This department is responsible for the contractual side the agreement between builder and consumer.
Worksafe Victoria
Accidents are serious and happen often. The domestic building sector accounts for 20% of the Victorian building industry but accounts for 80% of all building workplace accidents. This government department enforces by law safe work practices procedures.
Local Council
Local councils are control of town planning and have a say in the way your building impacts the community, essentially the size and shape of your building.
Building Surveyor/Inspector
At think simple builders we use JNAT. They are a large private reputable organisation that have resources to issue permits quickly if all data is correct.
These people are registered and audited by the VBA, their job is to cross check all data (building plans) as per standards, regulations and town planning requirements. Only then do they issue permits, building, demolition, certifacte of occupancy etc.
HIA
HIA is the housing industry association mainly catering for the domestic building industry, builder, tradesman, consumer and government. Member based funding such as myself.
MBA
Master Builders Association provides the same service as the HIA but the member base tends to be geared towards commercial building sector.
